Counselor’s Corner Dear Parent/Guardian, The ASW elementary school counselors would like to help service the needs and wants of our students and parent community the best that we can. For the last two years now, we have created a survey that we feel will help us when planning out our year-long goals for this school year. Also, the data we collect helps us know if we are meeting our own personal program goals. Please click the following link below and answer the questions by checking the box that most fits your choice so we may use this information when planning our school counseling activities. We will distribute this same survey at the end of the year to measure program success. Thank You---Your input is extremely important to us! https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfqwdYmDcuUy1VXkIrUqtzxYhYfrZqF_qKySOYtJ0ullYKIxw/viewform?usp=sf_link

Dear Parents,
What a wonderful response from our community! We had record attendance with 98% of our parents signing-up for a Three-Way Conference opportunity. As detailed in our new K-12 Policy “Assessment at ASW,” these opportunities to have students share with parents and teachers is an important part of our PYP Authorization process: “Three-way conferences are designed to achieve some and/or all of the following:

She will officially be our Principal-For-A-Day in May or June, 2018. Dear Parents, Congratulations to our 5th Grade students, parents, and staff who enjoyed camp last week. While the weather left us wishing for sun, the smiles and connections made on the trip were well worth the effort! Please note this upcoming and important event which will require parents to pre-plan: October 3 and 4th: PK-Grade 5 Parent-Teacher-Student: 3-Way Conferences The purpose of these conferences is to establish a relationship between student, parents and teacher- those who are responsible for supporting the student through the learning process. All present at the conference will have a role to play in highlighting and identifying achievements, challenges and possible next steps.
Sign-Ups will be sent out next week via our new conferences sign-up tool: Scholastico. While we will not have regular school on Oct. 3 and 4, attendance at the scheduled conference (during the times you sign up for) is mandatory. Teachers will not host conferences outside of the two days established for this work. As I mentioned at Back to School night- parents are welcome to schedule other times to meet with teachers regarding their children. However, the conferences scheduled on the ES Calendar- when students are not attending school- require student and parent presence to ensure our collaborative learning goals occur. Finally, this Wednesday-Friday I will be off campus with a small group of our PYP Learning Leaders, attending a conference on Teacher Leadership. While I do not like being absent, my work with this group of teachers is important to our continued growth and goals as a PYP school. I will remain available via email, and the ES Office Team is ready to help you in any way they can. Dear Parents, It was wonderful to see many of you at the PTO event this weekend. Thank you for making time to attend the event. In case you missed the Back to School Evening for Grade 1-5, here is link to my presentation. The “Welcome-Back Video” featuring our ES Staff will also be viewable on our ASW Webpage very soon. Our morning drop off time is very busy. The curbside nearest the Elementary School is a “Kiss and Go” zone. Parents and drivers can unload students at that point, but must drive on. Thank you for attending our Grades 1-5 Elementary Back to School event. We appreciate you making the time to partner with us right at the beginning of the year. Not only will students be showcased in “Spotlight On” Assemblies throughout the year, the ES Staff and I will also host Parent Partnership Meetings on non-assembly Fridays from 8:45-9:45 AM. We will update you via teacher blogs when there are other service projects within the school. Thank you! Daily Schedule: Our daily school hours are from 08:30 to 15:30 on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. Each Wednesday, students will arrive for a “late start” at 9:30. That said, we are in session on Friday, June 16, with many important year-ending events planned in our classrooms. Not long now… the countdown has truly started to our end of year. It was the biggest event of the year and the one I most looked forward to. In fact, about two weeks before, I convinced my dad to “train” with me so I could enter a race… and win. Of course, I didn’t win the race, but it doesn’t diminish the memory. Sun, fun and friends! (And a day without “school!”) Field Day was a hit at ASW last week too. Not only were the activities fun and the students engaged, the weather was simply glorious! What a wonderful day to be out and about having fun with friends. Thank you our Staff who made the day possible. A few weeks ago I provided a list of next year’s teachers in ENotes. Please note that we have hired Ania Saławiła-Lothamer as an Early Childhood Teacher (replacing Kate Szyszko) for next year. Ms. Lothamer has been working as a Teaching Assistant in the Elementary School at ASW since 2000.
