Principal’s Note: Dear Parents,
In the Elementary School, we paint, we climb, we sit on the carpet and run (until we are nice and sweaty) in PE! We also play outside in all weather and at times get wet and dirty. Being energetic and creative is a big part of our PYP program and allows students to grow and develop as active, healthy children. As mentioned a few weeks ago, it is important students come to school in clothes they can play in. It was lovely to see so many of you at our PTO Quiz Night on Saturday. Thank you for supporting our school. Warmly, Jen Munnerlyn ASW Elementary Principal Coming Up: Wednesday, February 7:

Click here for Video 1: A Window Into Learning: ES Parent Video 2018 What do you think? Please complete this short survey. The Elementary School will be celebrating “Carnival” on Friday, February 9. We are excited to offer an event which highlights our host country of Poland, while offering us an opportunity to have fun learning about other countries and their celebrations too! The Polish Culture and Language teachers, together with our homeroom teachers, will be helping students inquire into this traditional celebration and how it is presented around the world. Here in Poland, Carnival is typically celebrated prior to Ash Wednesday. People wear costumes and eat traditional donuts called Pączki. On Friday, February 9, students should come to school already in their costumes. First thing, we will parade through the school hallways. Parents are welcome to stay and watch our parades: 8:45-9:05 1st and 2nd Grade Parade 9:10-9:30 Parade 3, 4, 5th Grade Parade *Based on feedback from last year- PK/K will celebrate in age-appropriate ways in their own classrooms. Principal’s Note: Dear Parents, As we enjoy playing outside in the snow this morning, thank you for being sure to send your children to school in clothes appropriate for cold-weather play. (Including gloves!) We believe in play. We believe in being outside. If students are at school, we expect they will join us outside to play. Your help in making sure they are dressed for the weather is needed. Along with that, please do label all items of clothing clearly with your child’s name. This break has given us all a chance to rest and rejuvenate. Our students returned to ASW ready to learn! It is normally at this time of year that we notice the Lost and Found is overflowing with items. The next time you are on campus, please take a minute to check the area located across from the Tower (near the stairs). Additionally, please clearly label your children’s clothing including coats, boots, and indoor shoes with a permanent marker. Knowing what belongs to whom, is the only way we at school can help return items to their owners. Finally, I’ve highlighted a few dates below which will help you plan the rest of the year. Specifics regarding times and places will can be found in future ENotes. Please remember to also check the ASW Website Calendar for the most up-to-date postings each week! UN Day is a wonderful opportunity for our parents and students to celebrate our international school. We have children and families from everywhere at ASW and teaching our children to appreciate how we are unique, while also building bridges to better understand how we are similar, is a big part of our work as educators. parents, and as citizens of the world. The Elementary School has designed several opportunities for our children to be engaged and learning during the week of October 16-19: 1. On Monday, Tuesday and/or Wednesday students will share about their home countries. How this looks is dependent on what the child (with parent support or guidance) decides is important to share with the class and will vary by grade level.
