Principal’s Note:

We did it! The end of the 2016-17 school year is upon us!

It has been a wonderful year for our community, students and staff.

As I say goodbye to students who are moving on, I am always sure to remind them that they made a difference in our lives and will never be forgotten.

I look forward to seeing you all in August. In fact, please note two items of importance for the start of our 2017-18 year:

  1. We will send classlist and teacher information out to all parents prior to the first day of school. (I’m hoping an email goes out by Friday, August 18th. (Please make sure your Powerschool contact info is correct!)
  2. Then, on the day before our official start of school for students in Grades 1-5, we will host an optional “Returning ES Family Meet and Greet.” This event, held in the afternoon on Monday, August 21 will allow students to meet their teachers, see and say hello to last year’s teachers, and catch up with friends prior to our big, first-day start on Tuesday, August 22.
It has been a pleasure to partner with you this year.

Warmly,

Jen

Principal’s Note:

Last week we witnessed joyful, authentic, and PYP-connected performances from our Grade 1, Grade 3 and Grade 4 musicians. Congratulations to Mr. Minasz and Ms. Andrews as they demonstrate how our PYP Units of Inquiry will link with their music curriculums and even in these concerts! I know more about animals than I did before the Grade 1 performance!

We will not have school on Thursday as it is a National Holiday to celebrate Corpus Christi Day. That said, we are in session on Friday, June 16, with many important year-ending events planned in our classrooms.

Not long now… the countdown has truly started to our end of year. What a wonderful year it has been!

Warmly,
Jen

Principal’s Note:
I remember Field Day at my school when I was in 4th Grade. It was the biggest event of the year and the one I most looked forward to. In fact, about two weeks before, I convinced my dad to “train” with me so I could enter a race… and win. Of course, I didn’t win the race, but it doesn’t diminish the memory. Sun, fun and friends! (And a day without “school!”)

Field Day was a hit at ASW last week too. Not only were the activities fun and the students engaged, the weather was simply glorious! What a wonderful day to be out and about having fun with friends. Thank you our Staff who made the day possible.

A few weeks ago I provided a list of next year’s teachers in ENotes. Please note that we have hired Ania Saławiła-Lothamer as an Early Childhood Teacher (replacing Kate Szyszko) for next year. Ms. Lothamer has been working as a Teaching Assistant in the Elementary School at ASW since 2000. For the past many years, she has partnered with Joyce Husick (who will leave us at the end of this year) in Grade 2.

Have a wonderful week!
Warmly,
Jen

Plastic Bottle Collection - A Project from our friends in 9th Grade!
The 9th grade class is currently working on it's service learning project aimed at connecting maths and spreading the awareness about smog and air quality in Warsaw. We have a group of students, who would like to stress the importance of trees in maintaining the proper air quality. They would like to run a plastic bottles collection, to exchange them later for the small trees, that could be planted by 9th graders, or be distributed among ASW community. Please bring your empty plastic bottles to the bins marked in front of the ES Office (and under the ‘I AM’ display!
Questions: Please contact our Service Learning Assistant Marcin Kowalski (mkowalski@aswarsaw.org)

From 5-Matus: Give Help, Give Hope charity event
It is with great pleasure that students and teacher from 5-Matus invite you to the Give Help, Give Hope charity event. It is an event organized to help raise cancer awareness and funds for the treatment of a cancer patient registered with Alivia Foundation. The function will be held on June 8 and June 11 at 16:00 in the ASW Theater. The admission is free of charge, it is up to you if/how much you donate to this great cause. Other than the students and teachers themselves, several wonderful performers and guests have prepared songs, dances and speeches for you to enjoy. It is an opportunity for our community to help make a difference. We look forward to your presence at the event.
