Message from the Principal - Jen Munnerlyn Before the break, we enjoyed a wonderful UN Week at our school! Thank you to all parents for your support and hard work. Please note, I will be phasing out my use of ENotes as a weekly email. Instead, teachers will link a weekly message from me, to parents, via their classroom blogs. This change will happen officially the week of December 1. Warmly, Jen ---- Important Dates This Week: Friday, October 30: Halloween Celebration at ASW Important Upcoming Dates: November 5- ES PAC Meeting- cancelled November 11- Holiday- No School November 26-27- Holiday- No School ES Pumpkin Celebration! Help the ES celebrate autumn and Halloween by decorating a pumpkin creatively and showcasing it in our Hall of Nations on either Thursday or Friday, October 29th & 30th. Don't forget to fill out the entrance form with the a name and classroom to be displayed with the pumpkin. Forms will be sent home on Monday, Oct 26. All participants will receive a pumpkin button. Student Council members will be available from 8:00-8:30 on both mornings to assist with pumpkins in the Hall of Nations. Pumpkins should be taken home after school on Friday. Pumpkins that are not picked up by 3:45 will be collected by the MS for compost. ES Halloween Parade and Classroom Party! Don't forget to bring your Halloween costume to school on Friday, Oct 30, for the ES annual Halloween Parade and classroom party! The parade will begin at 2:00, led by our very own Mr. Eleryk and Mr. Kienhuis through the ES and Hall of Nations hallways. Parents are welcome to watch the fun. Halloween costumes must not depict violence or graphic content. Please check classroom blogs for specific grade level details. Refugee Winter Clothing Drive- extended until Friday October 30th We are collecting clothes for the winter season for the Syrian Refugees extended until Friday October 30th. Please bring any size clothing/shoes (baby- adult). No undergarments or swimming suits. The clothes can be dropped off at the: ES tower (near the ES entrance) ASW front entrance Thank you so much for your support, ES Roots & Shoots 4th Grade classes HS Global Politics class UNICEF Walk/Run Update The money has continued to roll in since the ES Student Council announced the amount raised at Monday’s All School United Nations Assembly in the new gym. The final grand total is 22, 012 PLN! We are happy to know that this will help many children in need. Thank you again to Mr. Eleryk and Mr. Keinhuis for organizing and leading this important event, and to our ES school community for generously supporting it. Rock'n'Rota Our first concert takes place on Friday Oct 30th at 6:30 in the ASW theater. Come hear our great HS and MS rock bands play for the District Care and Instructional Center in Konstancin, Tickets are 15 zł at the door. Congratulations to our All-American Bake-Off Contest Winners! This event was open to the whole ASW community to participate in. In the Cake category, the winners are: 1st - Brenda Nicely 2nd - Patrick Nowak (4th Grade, Mr. Benson) 3rd - Robin Blackburn In the Pie category, the winners are: 1st - Robin Blackburn 2nd - Ji Shin 3rd - Jessica Sirotin Zombie Run for MS and HS students Middle and High School Cross Country teams are calling for all ASW Zombies from 6th grade and up to 12th grade, to participate in our second annual Zombie Run. We will be running a 1 Km haunted loop of the school property where you will receive spooky prizes for participating. The run will take place on Friday, October 30th from 3:45pm to 4:30pm. Come dressed in your Halloween costume and see if you can outrun some Zombies. A special thanks to our PTO for their continued support. The English Language Conversation Group is a free class for ASW parents that meet on Mondays 8:45 to 10:15 and Wednesdays 8:45 to 9:45. Please join us for coffee, conversation, and fun! The focus is on what you need from a native speaker to become more fluent. Discussions include some of the nuances of the English language such as idioms, slang, and colloquial expressions not usually covered in a typical language class. Mondays are a more structured classroom environment, while Wednesdays are more relaxed with coffee and conversation. On Mondays, based on the lesson plan, the large group is broken down into smaller groups for more dedicated and tailored instruction. Feel free to bring any publications, school announcements or real life examples that you need help with. Attendance to all the classes is not mandatory but encouraged to benefit the most from understanding the language. If you are interested in volunteering, please email us at ptoenglish@aswarsaw.org Polish Conversation Polish conversation group and lessons are offered this year! The PTO is sponsoring a new class for the parents FREE of charge: "Introduction to Polish language and culture" group on Fridays at 9:30 am with Izabela Górnicka-Zdziech, who is an experienced Polish teacher and writer. Meetings just started last Friday and were a big success! By joining, you will learn how to pronounce and say Polish words, and you will be able to practice the most popular phrases and sentences. You will learn about Polish traditions and culture. Izabela Sign-up sheets for the classes are outside the PTO store by the cafeteria. Polish your Polish! Women’s Fit Club Trim, tone and shape your entire body for women of all ages, body types and fitness levels. Open to all parents, teachers and staff for FREE! Come join the ASW women’s Fit Club. We will meet Thursdays at 3:45pm until 4:30 pm. You will learn state of the art exercise techniques that boost fat burning without long cardio session. The class will consist of warm-up exercises followed by techniques that will be used during our workout session. We will be using functional full body movements to maximize and enhance your strength, stability, balance and agility. Location is weather permitting and will be determined prior. Konstancin Community Note Most of our ASW kids do trick-or-treat in Konstanja “the compound” right across from the school; trick-or-treat will be on Saturday, October 31 from 6-8 pm. It is believed to be the biggest trick-or-treat area in Poland now. Kids 14 and younger should be dressed in costume or no candy. If you are invited to a Konstancin home for the event, please bring 2 bags of candy per child to ensure there is enough for all kids. Konstancin residence have also received information fliers in their mailboxes

Our whole-school assembly allowed the big and little kids a chance to connect and to build community. How lucky are we?
