Dear Parents,

I hope you enjoyed the beautiful spring weather in Warsaw this weekend. It was truly an inspirational way to celebrate the Easter holiday.

As we move into more beautiful weather, please be reminded that students who stay after school to play on the playground or in the cafeteria-even if they are waiting for soccer or another activity- must be actively supervised by an adult. Any children who are not supervised will be sent to our pay-for Afterschool Care program. Your support is appreciated.

Just a reminder that our new PYP Coordinator Miranda Rose will be here on Wednesday to present to parents. Please plan to join us in the MPR at 8:45.

Have a wonderful week!
Jen

Community News:

1st Annual ASW Chess Tournament

ASW is very proud and excited to announce that we will host the 1st annual ASW Chess Tournament on April 8 to 9. This endeavor represents a rich integration of the Polish schools' community with the ASW community and commemorates the 90th anniversary of the esteemed Polish Chess Federation.

Following the success of the HS Chess Club, which meets every Wednesday in Matt Popovich’s classroom, members of the club, in particular grade 11 student Sebastian Soltysik, forged a relationship with the Polish Chess Federation and Polish Grandmaster Agnieszka Brustman to organize a tournament which will showcase the best and brightest high school players from ASW and around the region.

This tournament promises to be one of the more unique and exciting events ASW’s community has ever seen, and we cordially and enthusiastically invite everyone to attend. In the meantime, if you have any questions about this, please do not hesitate to contact Tournament Director Sebastian Soltysik at 17soltysiks@aswarsaw.org or Stephen Sidaway.

Dear Parents,

This weekend I attended a PYP Administrators course in Birmingham, UK. It was a busy two days. However, at one point I realized, “we can do this!” Part of that confidence was due to the hard work and leadership of our Director of Teaching and Learning, Carol Jordan. Thank you Carol!

Speaking of the PYP, please mark your calendars for the upcoming visit of our new PYP Coordinator, Miranda Rose. Miranda will be offering a parent information session on Wednesday, March 30 at 8:45 AM in the MPR. I hope you can join us.

This week is very busy. We will welcome the US Ambassador on campus to visit classrooms and to meet with the Administrative team on Wednesday.  On Thursday, we expect to see all families for our Parent Teacher and Student-Led Conferences. Finally, on Friday, there is no school for students, however, Faculty and Staff will meet for a day of professional learning.

Have a wonderful week!
Jen

Dear Parents,

Thank you to everyone who came out for our 3rd annual Family Reading Night last Thursday. It was a big success, with nearly 200 people in attendance. I would also like to thank Miriam James and Heidi Laffay who organized the event. Who knows, maybe a Family Math Night will be soon on the horizon!

As the weather warms up, we will be asking for your help with supervision after school. All elementary aged students- even those within walking distance of school- must be actively supervised by an adult. Your partnership is required to ensure our school cafeteria, playground and hallways are appropriately used after the school day is complete.

Warmly,
Jen

Dear Parents,

Just like our students, I continue to learn how to learn.
This weekend I participated in a workshop in Hannover, Germany about the “Power of Inquiry.” Kath Murdoch, better known as the “Queen of Inquiry Learning” led 80 teachers from around the world in sessions focused on developing school-wide and classroom-based inquiry models. Inquiry is the driver of all high-quality PYP programs. It is exciting to be part of this journey at ASW. Please remember to mark your calendars for our new PYP Coordinator, Miranda Rose’s, visit, March 30.

We have several opportunities to develop community this week. First of all, Family Reading Night on Thursday, March 10th is a wonderful way to connect as a community around the importance of reading to our children. To generate spirit about this event, students are welcome to come to school in their Pajamas on Thursday. Then on Friday, March 11th, all students are welcome to wear their red Warrior T-shirts to school to show our Elementary support for the CEESA Basketball tournament here at ASW this weekend.

Thank you for all you do to partner with us as parents.

Warmly,
Jen
