First Grade Fun in the Snow! Dear Parents,
This week we will have student-teachers on campus learning from us. These adults are beginning their journey into teaching and are eager to see a “real” classroom in action. We are happy to provide that opportunity for them. What better place to be than ASW? I hope to see you on Wednesday morning for our PYP Parent Meeting. A follow-up meeting will be held at the end of March when our new PYP Coordinator, Miranda Rose is here. Finally, a big thank you to the PTO for the Quiz Night on Saturday. Dear Parents, Our first week back in 2016 went very well. Students are connected, happy and learning. Please note, I will be in London at the teacher recruitment fair this Thursday and Friday. Once recruiting is complete I will be able to share information about our new teachers for the 2016-17 school year. Of course, the Elementary Office remains ready to serve you: Tanya, Karen, Dorota and Zuzanna can help with anything you need while I’m away. I would like to invite you to a parent informational session specifically about the PYP on Wednesday, January 27 at 08:45 in the MPR. In March, we will have a second meeting with our PYP Coordinator for 2016-17, MIranda Rose, who will be visiting Warsaw. Finally, please remember to attend and enjoy the PTO quiz night at the Blue Cactus restaurant Saturday evening, January, 23. It will be a fun-filled good time. Warmly, Jen Parent Partnership: Important Dates: January 18: Winter After School Activities begin January 20: ASW Open House for prospective families January 23: PTO sponsored ASW Quiz Night January 27: ES Parent Information Meeting- What is the PYP? (08:45) January 27-28: Grade 5 Book Swap February 4: ES Parent Tech Connection Meeting (08:45) We are all Warriors! Our start to school was very smooth. New students were welcomed and cared for by our community of learners. Each new student was provided a red “Warrior” t-shirt. These shirts were given to all elementary students in October. On specific, upcoming dates, we will encourage all students to wear our Warrior shirts to school. If you find you need another shirt for your child, please stop by the ES Office. We are selling them for 20 zloty. We are all Warriors! 5th Grade Book Swap Dear Everyone, The 5th grade book swap is an opportunity to exchange your old books for used new-to-you books. When you turn in three used books you receive one ticket that you can then exchange for a book at our book swap. The fifth grade students are working hard to create skits, PSA videos, and even puppet shows to promote this important charity event. In addition, they will be coming around to your classes to collect books and pass out tickets. It is important to note that the used books must be in good condition with no writing inside and no torn or missing pages. Our tough “book inspectors” will check your books carefully to make sure the books are up to standard. We will only give tickets for books written in English and Polish. All other books in other languages can only be donated for free and will not be exchanged for tickets. The collection and ticket distribution will take place from January 20th through the 26th and the book swap will take place on Jan 27th and 28th. All proceeds from the sales of books will be donated to the Warsaw Children’s Hospice. We look forward to working with you. Thanks, Mike Avery (Grade 5 Team Leader) See below for a video about the book swap. It was created by Ryan Cokerdem-DePriest in Grade 5. Today, as we began our journey into 2016, I was happy to see so many happy smiling faces enter our doors. Our community of learners is back and we are excited about what is to come this semester! Thank you as always for your support of our work and our school. This week and next, I have the privilege of reading to all classes, Kindergarten to Grade 5, during library time. The books I will be sharing all come with the same message: be kind to yourself and others. These books often become favorites of students once read. Here is a quick video depicting this important message. There is an adult version of How Full is Your Bucket by Tim Rath which can be found in our library or on Amazon. Enjoy! ES After School Activities:
Although the application process was completed before the holiday break, we still have spaces in most activities so the link on Moodle remains open. The forms received after the deadline will be considered only for those activities where we still have space left. The activities which are definitely full at this time are: Acrobatics, Table Tennis, Grades 1-3 Swimming, Cooking, Library Club and Grade 3 Chess. Application results will be sent to parents this Friday, January 15. Winter Season will run January 18-March 11. CLARIFICATION: I have received a number of questions regarding Drama Skills activity. This activity was not open for signing up at this time because we are not taking new participants. Those who participated in the Fall Season are expected to continue without signing up again. All students who are presently on the list will have a part in the play. The rehearsals will be twice a week, Tuesdays and Fridays, and a third rehearsal will most probably be needed. The production leaders will inform you about this. The play will happen on February 14 & 15. If you have any questions regarding school-sponsored after school activities please contact the ES Activities Coordinator Ms. Kusanovic: [email protected] ES Tech News: Thank you to all of you who supported our Hour of Code event in December. We especially enjoyed the hour we spent coding with our parents! The students enjoyed the coding lessons across the grade levels and it was wonderful to see so many coders in our elementary school! Our goal this year was 700 total hours of coding completed by our elementary school. Our final total was 921 hours! This was a very successful event and we thank you for your support at home.
